Welcome to the new homepage for OPENMaps, a Public Participatory Asset Mapping web tool. The project is by Fund for an OPEN Society, a national non-profit dedicated to stably integrated communities.

This page will be a resource for communities that want to use or view OPENMaps, including how those towns in our 1st Suburbs Network can build a map free of charge!

A new video training will be added to this site soon! The video is an instructional guide for a ‘local administrator’ starting an OPENMaps project in their town. Best,

The potential we see in OPENMaps

Why does a non-profit like OPEN offer a leading-edge internet-based mapping application? Why are we offering it for no cost to our NJ first suburbs? Fund for an OPEN Society promotes the policies, practices and attitudes that encourage thriving and racially mixed communities - because in today's world, vitality and inclusion go hand in hand. For neighborhoods, schools and civic institutions to reach their economic and social potential, we need integration - a vision that has not yet been fulfilled even with all our historic and recent progress. OPENMaps will be a locally used tool with many functions. Creating the map is first and foremost an exciting and unifying community project that will engage people of all backgrounds. It is also a local guide that helps all residents rally around the common strengths of the community. And it is a promotional piece. Anyone on the world wide web can see the map created by a community and want to be part of it. We're confident that OPENMaps will be a positive force, an integrating force for many communities that need it most. We're glad to help you get started on a mapping project today!
